Get Off Your "But"!

Get Off Your “But”!

Taking a stand for what you want in life.

Today’s world requires you to have a “we’re going to succeed” attitude. “When there could be so much chaos, turmoil and negativity, change always follows and leaves great opportunities”, I often tell my coaching clients this.

In a recent life coaching session,  my client listed a bunch of her dreams, goals, wishes, and aspirations, all of which sounded wonderful and promising, then, she would follow it up with a bunch of excuses and limitations associated with her wish list.  We kept going back and forth, numerous times hearing about her life dreams and possibilities to work them into her life, followed by why it won’t work and a bunch of limitations. Then, hearing about how she wants change so badly, just to be followed with every possible reason it couldn’t happen.  Finally I told her, “I can help you, but if you are not open to help, I cannot. Are you willing to work with me?” It seemed to me that she wanted so desperately to reach her goals, however, was stuck on her “But...”. As a coach, I remained neutral and needed to make her aware of her focus on limitations, in order to move forward.

How might you become an advocate for your goals rather than your roadblocks? I asked my client

As soon as she became willing, the session shifted.  She altered her limitation thinking to possibility thinking. This was a breaking point that works for everyone. When you are open to receive a better situation than you have experienced, the universe will deliver it. Like my client, you will have to get off your “But . . .” The more you focus on why things are not working, the more things don’t work. Such as saying things like excuses “but this”... or “but that”... Change your thinking into looking at “What about this?”...  or “What about that?”...  The more you focus on what is working, or how things could work, the more things will work. Become an advocate for your own personal wishes.

Your mind is extremely powerful. It is literally generating your world.  My client was almost trying to prove her roadblocks at first. Take care that you argue for your possibilities rather than your limits. You will get whatever you take a stand for, so make a stand for what you want.

Argue for possibilities, not limitations.

Sincerely,

Andrea Seydel
