Fluff!

It seems the word I’ve been hearing lately has been ‘fluff’!  People have been saying “that sounds fluffy” , “does my article have too much fluff?”, “that is a bunch of fluff”. So what exactly is meant when people say fluff? I picture myself running in slow motion with a big smile on my face and energetically leaping into a big pile of fluffy pillows and feathers flying as I land. The actual definition of fluff is; any light, downy material or something of little value or significance.  But is fluff really insignificant? Don’t we need fluff to balance life? Wouldn’t life without fluff be too serious?

When my son is about to make his brave attempt to jump off my high bed into the stack of pillows (filled with fluff) down below, I assure you he would argue that those pillows that will break his fall are not insignificant!  Why is fluff everywhere in a child’s life? Is it because their hearts are free and they have the ability to laugh and enjoy life?

I invite you to step away from a serious life with too much work and drudgery and allow yourself some well-deserved playtime.  Sometimes our lives may seem to become over controlled by other people’s needs and much too burdened with responsibilities. Consequently, we lose touch with our inspiration and creativity and, well, FLUFF!  When we lose the connection to our hearts, we essentially lose the connection to that spirited child within us. I know what you are thinking right now....FLUFF, right?!

I am not saying we should all become carefree; we should all strive for balance. Get the head and heart working as team-mates. Live in a way that’s wise yet kind, practical yet spontaneous, courageous yet caring, responsible yet passionate. It takes effort and time to get this balance right – I, myself struggle with this every day.

Our Spring edition of lifebalance is filled with some serious issues but balanced with ‘fluff’!  This issue will feed your spirit, help you listen to your inner child and allow for daydreaming, fantasizing, and exploration! I refer to ‘fluff’ with the utmost respect to our writers!

Using your imagination on how you can add more fluff to your life will honour your inner child and bring magic to your life. Your inner child’s message is “come play with me.”  Let’s jump on the stack of pillows together!

Sincerely,

Andrea Seydel Fleetwood
